Tiori Toru
Tiori Toru is a stained-glass work featuring Kererū, Tūī and Pīwakawaka, with resin highlights set into New Zealand Pōhutukawa and finished with marine-grade teak oil.
The artwork represents three native bird species, recreated through the stained-glass process and integrated into a Pōhutukawa slab. Tiori Toru refers to the three unique bird sounds and how these delicate birds make their voice heard amidst increasing pressure on our natural environment.
The piece is mounted on a rock, considered to be forged in anger then cooled to be a peaceful gift from nature, connecting it to the landscape that inspired it. As the rising sun breathes life into the birds, the stained glass expresses shifting shades, colours and moods in its ever-changing light.
